Burns Photography is the work of Gil Burns — photographs of the land in its best light, and of the historic places that give a city its character.
The work
Most of these photographs begin with waiting: for the fog to lift off the lake, for the last light to reach the Capitol dome, for a storm to clear the prairie. Each image is composed in the field and finished by hand, with the aim of showing a place the way it felt to stand there.
The Landscapes collection follows water, weather, and seasons. Wildlife is birds and animals met in the wild, on their own terms. Madison, Wisconsin documents the city's landmark architecture and neighborhoods — the buildings and details that carry its history.
